N the novel Of Mice and men by John Steinbeck, What is the importance of animals?

Lennie鈥檚 Puppy

Lennie鈥檚 puppy is one of several symbols that represent the victory of the strong over the weak. Lennie kills the puppy accidentally, as he has killed many mice before, by virtue of his failure to recognize his own strength. Although no other character can match Lennie鈥檚 physical strength, the huge Lennie will soon meet a fate similar to that of his small puppy. Like an innocent animal, Lennie is unaware of the vicious, predatory powers that surround him. More鈥?.

The animals also represent the ';dream';. The rainbow coloured bunnies are always brought up when George tells Lennie about the little farm they are going to have and often fantacize about.

The mice also foreshadow events around Lennie. When the reader is introduced to Lennie petting the mouse in his pocket and accidently kills it, we are also aware that something bad happened in his past with a woman. This foreshadows the events surrounding Curleys wife where Lennie again, is petting her softness completely innocent and accidently kills her when he panics.

We can also draw comparisons between the mice and Lennie throughout the novel and their ultimate surmise when Lennie dies at the end of the novel.N the novel Of Mice and men by John Steinbeck, What is the importance of animals?
