How are the great depression and Of Mice and Men related?

During the great depression, all that most people had to live on was a dream because their lives really weren't brilliant. This links to Of Mice and Men because Lenny and George had their American Dream- to own their own farm and live off the land, and have rabbits. But they too were affected the depression in the way that everyone else was, the only work they could get was on the farm, which would get them nowhere.
